Why did they change page 1 from The Doctor's Opinion to Bill's Story (first and second editions of the Big Book)?

Reply: So in new revisions of the book, when they updated the forwards, they would not have to change all of the other page numbers.

Just a bit of local AA History. Our Home Group (Saturday Nite Live in San Jose) just celebrated its 25th Anniversary as an AA Group. We published a history book regarding our group and included many stories from members. We also believe we were the first group in Norther California to pass out 24 Hour "Desire" chips. The practice came from an AA Group in Dallas Texas where one of our co-founders got sober. If you would like to get a copy of this history book, send me an e-mail and I can work it out. Also, check us out on the Web @ www.saturdaynitelive.org
Take care and God Bless - John H.

1. What chapter was page 1 in the first
edition of the big book?
2. What chapter was page 1 in the second edition of the big book?
3. In which edition of the big book was Dr. Silkworth given credit for having written The Dr's Opinion?

Reply:
1) Dr Opinion
2) Bills Story
3) Second Edition, First Printing - except he was not "given credit" in this edition, he "gave
us permission" to use his name....he was always given the credit by the fellowship.

Just wanted to thank aahistory.com for the warm sobriety birthday greeting I received via email. Dec 21 will mark nine years of continuous sobriety and this is coming from an alcoholic who couldn't muster 3 days on my own. By day 3 I was either too mad, too happy, or too depressed and I then reached for the "sense of ease and comfort which came at once by taking a few drinks--"
By the grace of God, I'm sober one more day.
I'll close by saying I'm a firm believer in the "daily reprieve".
My sponsor had me look up reprieve in the dictionary and the definition I live by that
keeps me humble is reprieve is a stay of execution for death-row convict- and that's me.
I too, thank God for AA and AA for God.
God bless and thanks again!

Regarding your link to info on the Serenity Prayer. The article is riddled with inaccuracies and myth. For example, Friedrich Oetinger was the pen name for Dr. Theodor Wilhelm who published a version of Niebuhr's prayer in 1951; F.C. Oetinger was an 18th century theologian who had nothing to do with the prayer. A history is included in the text by Elisabeth Sifton called THE SERENITY PRAYER: FAITH AND POLITICS IN TIMES OF PEACE AND WAR, esp on pages 210 and following.

Reply: Your email address didnt work, otherwise I would answer you. We think our version is more accurate. Thanks for citing your one source.

Each day I am given gifts and challenges to learn about this journey I am on. Only being sober and the faith of God and fellowship could this be possible.
