I never met Charlie in person. I enjoyed very much hearing the tape. Read his life, and I thank God, for people like Charlie. He served with love and joy. I am sure he is going to be well, in the next life. He gave love. My condolences to Charlie's family, specially his wife, who I am sure will miss him. I send his wife a warm HUG, from far away. My deepest sympathy to Charlie's family and to those who love Charlie. This is the first time I've ever heard of him and Joe, and it has sparked a strong interest in me to find out what they had to say. I'm also a big fan of the Big Book so it will be great to see it from a passionate point of view. I pray for you all and wish you a wonderful 24 while remembering Charlie and his outstanding service that lives on in AA. Ping an(peace), Sean

Joe and Charlie brought their Big Book study weekend to Wheeling, WV, many years ago.
I attended and deepened my understanding and experience of the Steps.
I will remember Charlie in my Easter Mass tomorrow. Thanks, Charlie B.

Early in my recovery I had the priviledge of being at a Big Book Study by Joe and Charlie. I still have their tapes...thank you, family, for sharing him with us.

I met him in Sacramento and bought tapes of the big book study. I am so glad I got to him. A wonderful personality, him and both Charlies provided a wonderful service to our fellowship.

I was first introduced to the tapes when I was living in a women's sober living house. Every Wednesday, the women from the house would sit around the kitchen table and listen, drink coffee and laugh. I loved the tapes, it showed me that not only my disease is powerful and deadly, but, every time I laughed at one of their many jokes, I never felt alone, and the healing power of laughter is better than any drink or drug I did in my "drinking days!" Thank you all so much for sharing this with us. I am very sorry for your losing an incredible man! My thoughts and prayers are sent your way!

In September of 1997 my father died suddenly, and my two-step version of Alcoholics Anonymous promptly ran out of gas.I was going nuts at 8 years dry and literally dying for a good sponsor.A dear friend in the fellowship gave me a set of Joe and Charlie tapes and I thought I had found the Dead Sea Scrolls of AA.A couple of us became tapers, and made real nusiances of ourselves for the next decade or so,but we stayed sober, handed out a lot of tapes(free)and a lot of lives and families were changed for the better.I had the priviledge to speak on the phone once with Charlie, and it made my year to say the least.Just to hear that midwestern twang that had spoke to millions via conventions, meetings, and tapes speaking to ME,MEEE??Still makes me feel special to recall it.Peace be still,he is not dead,he did not die,he has but awoken from the dream of life. Thanks for the message, and for being a role model for this way of life.

I treasured my private moments with Charlie when he came to Northern California.
I was born three months before Charlie, but remained far behind him in recovery, and wisdom.

I sobered up in 1980 and I got a gift of the four-tape set by Charley and Joe and purchased subsequent larger sets. I listened to them in my car regularly and they were an inspiration. As an amateur historian and writer, I think both authors were inspired and the love of the program shined through. Via Con Dios
