The tapes Joe McQ made helped me understand in a simple way how to hit the steps early in my days of being sober. I remember listening to his soothing voice and then I knew it would be ok and I would overcome the bottle. Today I am sober in excess of 17 years and God willing, I have had my final bout with the bottle and believe it is in part due to people like Joe. Thank you for supporting him so that he could help me.

Needed help, found the free Joe & Charlie tapes on-line. The tapes helped me discover a new understanding of and guidance for using the Big Book. This has helped me gain much peace. I hope that I may be able to help others, as Joe and Charlie helped me.

HI,
I was so sorry ot hear that Joe McQ died, I only heard last week, and I just want to let you know that I am so grateful for the time that he came to the UK where he spent 3 days passing on the message of recovery...
I have been able to stay clean and sober for a number of years now (13), still the battle of my will or Gods will is rife...this I know is due to my not carrying on with a daily inventory. Today I am struggleing with my self will and anger, I was looking for a resentment chart on the internet that I maybe able to print off and work through, I found this site so thanks for the oppertunity of staying sober, without the experience of working through these things in the past I would only have the old solution....which sometimes seems inviting, but I know that there is a different way today of living and conducting myself. I am at the crossroads again and need to take the action.
Bless you all and thankyou ......Jackie

Thank you so much for the hard work that you put into clarifying and simplifying the message of the Big Book. I joined a step study at 17 years sober using Joe's books and a set of CD's from an Albany presentation. Thanks to Joe (and Charlie) I have never been a more effective member of AA/NA.
With Love

I knew that Joe had passed but I wasn't certain when. I stumbled on this site and with eternal gratitude, wish Joe's family (millions, I'm sure) peace and sobriety.
I was a few weeks sober in June of 1986, when I desperatly needed a meeting. I drove to the nearest group in Mesa, AZ (the 602 Easy Does it Group) and found that no meeting was scheduled for that time. Lonely and desperate, I asked God to guide me, for a change. When I looked around the empty room, I noticed a set of castette tapes near an old tape player. I read the title, "Joe and Charlie's Big Book Comes Alive". Curious, I put in tape #1 and heard, for the first but not last time, Joe and Charlie's interpretation of the Big Book - it saved my life. I also became a day-counter, when I heard Charlie state that, because of the power of AA and the power of a God he found in AA, it had not been necessary for him to take a drink, one day at a time for 6753 days (again that was in June 1986). For the same reasons, it has not been necessary for me to take a drink now for 7959 days today, and for that, I am grateful. Thanks Joe, Charlie and AA.

These guys has helped me more than they would ever know. Especially with understanding the "Basic Instints Of Life" as written in Step 4 of the 12&12. God bless his family and many friends. He is an intigral part of me staying sober "One Day At A Time".

Joe helped to save my life and there aren't any words that express that better. I never had the priviledge of meeting him, but did talk to him on the phone. When I first heard Joe, I was 3 years sober and miserable and he helped to change that. Thanks, God Bless
