Having only recently learned of the death of Joe, I need to say how much he has meant to me and my recovery. I'm 25 years sober, and in my darkest times, I listened to the Big Book tapes with Charlie P. I continue to listen to them all the time, and the reason is really Joe. I still laugh at all of his jokes, though, by now, I know them all by heart. His joy is both contagious and palpable in those tapes, and having never met him (or seen him until this day, I want to express my deepest condolences to his family, and my deepest gratitude for this southern man who brought so very much to a northern man. I will never get the chance to see him now but his spirit will always be with me.

Joe, made a huge impact on me in my second month of being in the AA program. I was lucky to hear someone mention the Joe and Charlie tapes in a meeting. I found the tapes on a website and downloaded them and have listened to them almost daily. Joe's message has helped me to stick with the program and better understand how to stay Sober. God Bless you Joe and Joe's family. He has helped so many of us to stay Sober.
Respect and love to his family.
Lou

I was with out hope in 1992, My stories is like most I had climbed the ladder in my career, Management with a major retail company and in just a few short years couldn't get a job at the Chicken Plant. After the many institutions i found out what i could put in a shoot glass, it is everything i own. I found myself at the door of the Park and Joe let me in, He personaly assigned me my first Sponsor Don C. After 32 days I was terrified and had know place to turn, Joe McQ showed me 12 stones stacked together and he removed the one at the top and the rest of them feel around them, He said the third step is your corner stone if it is removed everything falls down around you. I begged my way into the Sernity House and was there for a year.
I now have 17 years clean and sober, Joe McQ helped me find the tools that kept me busy long enough so I could find God. I still study the book he signed for me daily. I work with others and I make meetings regularly. I am the one in the back of the meeting thats takes what you so freely offer me with out you knowing and carry it to another.

Joe and Charlie have truely been God Sends when it comes to the study of the Big Book. I am sober today because of the format these fine gentlemen made available to the masses for understand the message of recovery.

Joe will be sorely missed!!!

Words could not explain how this man along with Charlie changed my life.

I am reminded of a Ray Boltz song "Thank You" In it he sing "and great is your reward".

I know Joe did this for the glory of his maker, and for that Great is HIS reward!

I have nothing but admiration for BIG JOE.I first met Joe in 1992 when he and Charlie did a big book study in Glasgow and spent many happy hours in there company,it would be impossible to say how many thousands of alcoholics have been and will continue to be aided in their recovery as a result of listening to these two men.Joe enjoyed a laugh and he and I used to talk about a "broon troot"which is a brown trout.Joes memory will go on forever,I can just imagine him now lying on his couch wearing elasticated joggers and eating jelly babies.GOD BLESS.

I am new in the program and someone handed me a set of Joe and Charlie CD's. These have helped me make sense of the steps. I'm sorry I only got to hear him after he was gone.

I ran across the tapes of Joe and Charlie just recently on an internet site and began listening to them. Only sober now for 62 days, they bring me great comfort and understanding at this early juncture in my sobriety. I wish I could have met Joe in person to thank him for what he is still able to do for us drunks. May God Bless your family. Neal M 1/1/08
