I was about 6 months sober, going to meetings and confused by all the "expert" opinions on how to to stay sober. Joe and Charlie came to town and told me how it was in a way that made sense to me. With God's help and Joe and Charlie showing me how I've been sober for 26 years. Thank-you Joe.

Hi, 9 months ago I tried to commit suicide because I could not see a way out from my alcoholism. I was hospitalised for 2 months, i'm 30 years old. I left school at 16 to be a premier league soccer player!!! I literally had everything to live for but alcohol quickly took everything me. I found AA in 05 after treatment but I didn't surrender, so I has 7 more years out there! It was hell at the end. I finally took action I got a sponsor and did the steps, meeetings, service etc. Today my life is nothing short of a miracle i'm now doing a collage course and voluntary at a treatment centre. I'm flying home to Newcastle on xmas eve to see my family who disowned me 9 months ago!!! I owe my life to AA I listen to hi and charlie a lot. Wow,everyday I do action and help another alcoholic. Thank you so much! Craig xxxxxx

I was finally able to sober up in March of 1981, just in time to hear Joe present his regular Monday night step talk in Little Rock, Arkansas. I was scared, overwhelmed and ready to run, but when I heard Joe talk about the 5th Step the "program" suddenly made sense to me and the 4th Step seemed like a reasonable thing to do. I give Joe full credit for helping me over that very high barrier to my sobriety. I estimate that I was able to listen to his Monday night Step Talks for 400 to 450 times, and I got to hear him grow in his understanding and presentation of the Steps of the Program of AA. I also got to share our March "birthday" celebrations with him until his death.
Joe was truly a humble man who Carried This Message to many many other people. I thank his memory for guiding me along my road to recovery. Thanks Joe.

I am writing out of deep gratitude in 201/ long since both joe and Charlie have passed. I do not have the compulsive allergy to alcohol but my father did as do many in my family. But it was not until this disease manifested itself in one of my daughters did I find joe and charlie. Five years ago when I first started to attend alanon, I was a sad, a gry woman who was sick of my daughter. If truth I told I was. Lose to hating even the sight pf her. For two years I struggled I. Alanon , working tge steps , I had no be.ief I. God, my resentments turned into more a d more fear based anger. Then quite by chance ( I now be.ieve ot was god) I. Found joe and Charlie. There is a poem by Longfellow called two paths on the woods, the last line " and that has made all the difference". Joe, Charlie and their methods of teaching the steps in the big book are for me that path. They have made all the difference. Thank you and them for all they have given

I am so grateful for Joe and my friends who got sober with Joe. If I am to only mention one thing, the greatest thing I got from Joe, was the fact that the 3rd step was only a decision. And also I didn't even have a clue what my will and my life was until he explained it was my thoughts and my actions.
Once the two things were explained the decsion was made and onto the 4th step. And then everything started getting better and I was able to complete the steps, have the spiritual awakening and practice the principles in all my affairs.
