A few of us organised a trip to Bristol for a Big Book Study in 1997, I hadn't drank for nearly 4 years and was really struggling with the steps. I was 22 and found it hard accepting my problem! I spoke to Joe, not thinking I was 'bad' enough to be a 'real alcoholic' and he just smiled and said, 'Young lady the problem of the alcoholic centres in the mind'. I have never forgetton those words and am now 14+ years sober. He, without knowing, helped to save my life and make it what it is today. I am so sad to hear he is no longer with us and send his close friends and family my condolances, I am so sad for their loss. He lives through so many people he has helped either directly or indirectly. What a legend!

My deepest sympathies for your loss. I did not know Joe personally however my life has changed because of his writings and the life he had the courage to live without alcohol. I am a food addict and Joe's teachings applied to my life as much as to Joe's. I thank God that Joe was willing to share his life with so many.

Thank you for loving and supporting him which made it possible for his wisdom to be part of my life in recovery. May God bless you with strength and grace today and always.

Love and Blessings, Jennifer

My condolences go out to all of you. I never had the pleasure to meet Joe, but I listened to his tapes many times. They helped me immencely to understand better the Big Book. I thank Joe for his great service to AA and I know he will be happy in that Big AA meeting in Heaven. I guess he will have to find another partner in Heaven to continue with his work. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Love, David Lugo, San German, Puerto Rico

What a way to carry the message of Alcoholics Anonymous. I always loved the discussions Joe & Charlie had. They have helped scores of alcoholics via their unique way of carring the message to the alcoholic. May God Bless all who Loved Joe and keep his spirit alive in their Hearts and Minds.

I have never had the pleasure of meeting Joe McQ. He got sober 2 years and 1 month before I was born and for that I will be forever grateful. I have seen Joe McC and Charlie speak at The Wilson House where I had the great priviledge to do some volunteer work. I got sober in Maine where I reside now and Joe McQ's message is carried strongly here. I have a sponsor, who has a sponsor, who has a sponsor and they all sing Joe's paises, as do I. So you see on March 10, 1962, 2 years and 1 month before I was even born, God was taking care of me already. Thank you Joe. May you rest in peace now, your work here is done.
