I am a student of Joes Big Book Study talks, I first "met" Joe when I was unable to read the book and was given an old set of tapes, I played them over and over and he 12th stepped me into the sunlight of the spirit, I tried for many years to carry the message but the contempt prior to investigation was so strong here in my area that I always felt alone, meanwhile I kept listening, gradually I got a set of Cds and used them, then I was blessed with a sponsee who was internet savvy and she found sites where she could download him, we churned them out-- giving them to anyone who showed even a remote interest--we trod on toes and members retaliated,it was hard going for some time, then through a series of events we "met" Cliff B--Joes Sponsee--and Cliff loved us into the light again!!!!! Thank you my mentor, We formed a Primary Purpose Big Book Study group and got in contact with Myers, Chris and the rest of the mob of Primary Purpose members around the world and struck opposition yet again, but Cliff and the others supported us, We were able to start a DVD Step group because a sponsee purchased a set and donated them to a meeting in a rehab that had been using an old set of Videos that were nearly threadbare,Sheets from Joes Guidebooks were used in the beginners meeting in the rehab, little by slowly we grew stronger in our message.

I am an Aboriginal artist and wanted to give Joe something to show my gratitude and help raise money for the womens residence at Serenity Park, I asked Joe if he would like a painting to auction and after praying to the Creator I held the brush as the Master "wrote" the message....it was the most incredible painting I have ever done, I didn't want to part with it but I knew it had to go to him.

Joe was unable to part with it either!!!

He decided to keep it for the Womens Residence and sent me the most beautiful letter, signed copies of his books and a photo of the painting so I would still have a copy, He understood how hard it was to let it go.

I am in my 14th year of recovery and thank my God that I walked with Joe in the sunlight of the spirit, He has been instrumental in carrying the message that it is NOT the meetings that get us sober it is the program outlined in the basic text.

Until we meet again my friend, save me a seat beside you and a few jelly beans, I love you Joe, Thank you for my sobriety, Karlene Norman Nowra NSW Australia

I've had the pleasure of listening to many tapes. It's wonderful to see the Big Book come to life with their approach.

I met Joe in 1990 at the Wilson House ... I am not AA but OA and he and Charley really changed my life ... knew the recovery was in the BB but did not know how to translate it ... through the patience of Charlie and Joe I was able to study this wonderful BB ... went with them to Blackpool, England
in 1995 they spoke to a big room full of complusive overeaters and what a wonderful experience that was ... reading of Joe's two books have also helped me and many others to learn how to sponsor the way it was done in the beginning ... I loved his humility and love of this program and will really miss him but I feel those of us here have to keep spreading this wonderful BB as he would have loved us to do ... God blessed him and soon we will all met in that next room up there ... Peace Roberta D.

Joe McQ was such a blessing to me in my early sobriety. I attended one of the Big Book Study Seminars and met Joe. He explained things to me in a way that I could understand. His wisdom and kindness was awesome. My life was catapulted to a different level with respects the AA program. I owe much of the credit for my 21 years of sobriety to Joe. He will surely be missed.

I had the privilege of meeting Joe at a Big Book Study Weekend he was doing here in Blackpool in 1995, the first year of my sobriety in AA. What a beautiful guy and he has helped countless people around the globe. In our local group we watch the tapes he made of the 12 Steps and enjoy his humour, his guidance and his passion and love for the program and people. May God bless him and all of you, his family and my thoughts and prayers are with you at his passing. Much love, Andrea xxx
