My prayers are with you at this time. I cannot really express in enough words the gratitude I have for Joe and his work in AA and his work in treatment and how much it has helped me in my journey in recovery. I first came to AA in Feb 1999. After a few months I started to attend a book study that used the Joe and Charlie tapes. This book study helped me greatly in understanding what my Big Book was trying to say to me. Also, after a relapse, I ended up in a long term recovery center that bases their program after Serenity Park and got an even deeper understanding of the Big Book, how it applied to me and what I was going to have to do to stay sober and live. Would I have gotten dry and sober if I had not of heard of Joe and his work? I cannot say, but having been influenced by his work has made taking the steps easier and simple for me and because of God and the fellowship of AA I will be celebrating 4 years of sobriety and a life that is so amazing now.
I am forever grateful for that.

Joe was an extremely kind, soft-spoken, effective spokesman for the Big Book as the tool, personal work as instrument, and God as the power. He personally supported my work on the history and successes of early A.A. His work with Charlie at the Sacramento Big Book Seminars was an immense help to me and the many men I took with me to Sacramento to learn the real program of recovery set forth in A.A.'s Big Book. His unabashed mention of God and the Bible in his personal writings was indicative of his humility and understanding. God Bless. Dick B.

I am sorry for your loss. The step study tapes that these two angels put their hearts and time into have been surmountable in my recovery. What a great gift and legacy did Joe leave for those of us who still suffer on occasion. Sincerely, Rhonda Wier sobriety date: 6-15-07

I'm sending Prayers to Joe's family, and a Congradulations to Joe's Sririt. He's made it...He has arrived. God's brought him home to do His work at His right hand. He will be missed here...
I credit Joe and Charlie for defining the difference between the "fellowship" and the "Program" of Alcoholics Anonymous among many other "Pertinent Ideas". I know they've helped hundereds of people I know personally to better understand the "Big Book" and what it means to live in the world of the Spirit.
I thank you Joe, I thank God for you Joe.Be Free now my Brother...I know you will be with "Us" in the Fellowship of the Spirit and continue to help us as we "Trudge the road of happy destiny" God Bless you my Friend...Happy Trails to you...Until we meet again... In Love and Light, Ralph Cova

I first met Joe in December of 1988 in Tarrytown, NY. Joe & Charlie brought the Big Book alive for me that weekend. It was one of the most significant events of my life! My favorite recollection of Joe was in 1992. I had the honor of picking Joe up at LaGuardia airport for a Big Book Weekend at St. John's University. We had a lot of fun visiting Stepping Stones that afternoon. I believe I still have some wonderful photos of Joe at Stepping Stones with my then sponsor Lum S. (1920-2004) and my current sponsor Paul L. What I treat that was! I am so grateful that God allowed our paths to cross. I know that Joe was truly a gift from God to me and so many others. Thank you Joe!! God has indeed Blessed you. Bob F.

The Joe and Charlie Big Book lectures need no elaboration from those of us who have enjoyed learning how to live a better life by having a better understanding of what we are suppose to do. I know Joe, like so many others who have carried the message before, enjoyed his first meeting when he got to Heaven. I can just hear Joe, Bill and Dr. Bob laughing as they recall many of the funny and humorous ways very vital points were made so it became clearer, the directions must be followed if we are to recover.

Every Monday night, Joe and Charlie continues to carry the message to approximately one hundred men during a Big Book study at one of the North Carolina penal institutions and one only has to turn on their imagination to wonder how many thousands of AA members have benefited from Joe's contribution to their recovery.

He may be physically not longer with us but his spirit and voice will continue to be with us for years to come.

Joe was a true blessing from God. Thank you God!

Joe will be sadly missed by many in the Vancouver area. His humour and straight forward view of the Big Book opened my eyes early in sobriety and continued to give new insight many years later.

I attended many big book sessions hosted by Joe & Charlie. I was blessed to hear Joe's message and I know I am a stronger sober man today because of his sharing.

My deepest sympathies to his family. I am saddened by his passing but grateful to know there is another angel in heaven watching over all of the "friedns of Bill'.

God Bless
