I'm sitting here with my copy of Joe and Charlie's, "Journey to Recovery" booklet on how to work Step 4 when I heard the news of Joe's passing. Though I never got to meet him, his words struck a cord within me that I will continue to keep until it is my time to join him, along with Bill and Bob. My deepest condolences to Joe's family and friends both in and outside of our AA community. Joe and Charlie were my first introduction to some of AA's History. His stories about his drinking were very similar to mine so I bonded with him from the very first moment I heard his voice. Though I was always reminded he was not one of the authors of the Big Book, I do believe his insight to recovery was absolutely a God send for me and my recovery; regardless of what anyone else thinks I think he was right on! I will miss him dearly! In love and service, Clyde G.

I have to say, with great sorrow, to hear of the passing of Joe. I've been sober since 7-20-1983, and have only been heard of the Joe and Charlie tapes since 2004. Joe has a wonderful legacy he has left behind.

I've used their tapes many times for myself when I got sober in 1988 and then later with newcomers. Joe and Charlie and their tapes have been a great gift to our fellowship and we'll continue to try and carry Joe and Charlie's AA message of hope and recovery. Thank you.

During my first year of sobriety, I was fortunate to have been given a 2nd hand copy of The Steps We Took. I was unemployed at the time. It is one of my greatest treasures. After I got on my feet financially, I went to a weekend retreat with Joe and Charlie. Of course since then I have purchased the sequel Carry This Message. I have sponsored and continue to sponsor a number of ladies in the Macon, Ga. area. I sponsor strictly by the books (that is the Big Book AND the books written by Joe McQ. His legacy will be passed on for as long as I am able to pass it on. For that I am truly grateful. He was a great man.
